New Delhi: The first test match between India and England ended in a draw after day five of the match was washed out due to rain on Sunday. This test match was the first match of the World Test Championship 2023 cycle.

Day 5 saw delay twice since the morning as an early Lunch was taken as rain played a spoilt sport. Team India needed 157 runs to win the first test match of the tour against England but no play was possible due to continuous rain.

Team India scored 52 runs after bundling out the hosts in the third session of day 4 on Saturday. Vistors got off to a cautious start but unfortunately lost opener KL Rahul as English fast bowler bowled an absolute beauty to dismiss the Indian batsman.

India bowled out hosts England on 303 in the third session. Joe Root scored a magnificent century in the second innings which eventually helped England to post a target of 209 for team India.

Host’s captain Joe Root played an important inning before India fought back with Jasprit Bumrah’s awesome five-wicket haul. Bumrah picked his second five-wicket haul at Trent Bridge.

The English skipper came into play when the hosts were struggling in front of the visitor’s bowling attack. Indian bowlers managed to pick 3 wickets in the second session but Root kept on scoring with a decent rate within the end helped England to keep in the game.
