The eight existing IPL teams announced their player retention list on Tuesday ahead of the mega auction for the Indian Premier League 2022. Some of the big payers including MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumtah were retained by their respective sides. In the meanwhile, there were several surprising exclusions as well, with the limit set to four players per team. With Rs 90 crore assigned to each team at the mega auction, the eight teams have criteria to retain up to 4 players with a maximum of 3 Indians, 2 overseas players, and 2 uncapped Indians. Besides, each of the eight teams used the Player Retention option with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Mumbai Indians (MI) choosing to retain 4 players each. This has resulted in PBKS having the highest amount of Rs 72 crore at the mega option while Delhi Capitals having the least Rs 47.50 crore. As compared to their previous earnings, Virat Kohli from Royal Challengers Bangalore and MS Dhoni from Chennai Suoer Kings will be earning less in this upcoming IPL.
