Jasprit Bumrah given Vice Captaincy responsibility once again for the New Zealand Series

Indian pace superstar Jasprit Bumrah has been given the responsibility of Vice-captaincy once again for the three-match test series against New Zealand

New Delhi: Indian pace superstar Jasprit Bumrah has been given the responsibility of Vice-captaincy once again for the three-match test series against New Zealand that starts on 16th October at the Chinnaswamy stadium. Before this, Bumrah had also led the Indian side during the rescheduled fifth Test match against England in July 2022 at Edgbaston.

The right-arm pacer was expected to be given the vice-captaincy role in the Bangladesh series. However, the decision by the authorities and head coach Gambhir not to provide them with any vice-captain. quashed the dreams of the Indian pacer.

The senior selection committee led by former India pacer Ajit Agarkar picked the squad, which was announced through a media statement by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, late Friday night. The squad will be led by skipper Rohit Sharma and there are no surprises in it.

All the regular names who have featured in red-ball cricket against Bangladesh have retained their place in the team. Surprisingly, there was no Mohammed Shami in the side. The Indian pacer is making a desperate attempt to make a comeback to the national circuit. Shami has been recovering from an ankle ailment, which kept him out of Bengal’s opening Ranji Trophy matches.

After having undergone surgery earlier this year, Shami has not yet fully recovered from his injury. Interestingly, the 2023 ODI World Cup final was his last competitive match appearance.
