New Delhi: Indian cricket has been blessed by a good crop of cricketers who can shoulder the responsibility of leadership along with playing beautiful cricket. The top three candidates in this ‘multi-tasking’ list are Rishab Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul. However, BCCI’s latest decision before India vs Bangladesh has given a huge setback to the flying aspirations of these three.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has decided that for the upcoming test series, there will be no vice-captain in the upcoming test series. This makes people wonder about the suitable candidates who have proved their leadership capabilities for domestic teams, franchise cricket or the national team.
Bumrah sidelined from Vice-captain’s duties?
Out of all the candidates, the most shocking part was the sidelining of India’s number 1 bowler Jasprit Bumrah. In the test series against England, Bumrah was named as the vice-captain of the test series against England. However, injury has sidelined the right-arm pacer from cricketing action.
Bumrah is seen as a natural leader in the present crop of players. Rishab Pant his leadership skills in domestic franchises alongside KL Rahul has also not been handed the responsibilities. A possible justification for Pant and Rahul’s exclusion could be because both of them have leadership roles in white-ball cricket only so far.
The BCCI has not given a proper explanation as to why they have not put anyone as the second-in-command. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma will be leading the side in the Bangladesh series.
