‘Would like to do it again’: Mitchell Marsh’s brazen reply on ‘feet over CWC trophy’ row

Marsh also made it clear that his intention was not to disrespect the World Cup trophy

New Delhi: Veteran Australian all-rounded Mitchell Marsh recently faced heavy backlash after a picture featuring him sitting with his feet over the ODI World Cup 2023 trophy went viral on the internet. While many cricket fans advised him to show some respect for the coveted trophy, others schooled the World Cup winner over his arrogance and attitude.

Amidst all this, the cricketer finally broke his silence about the matter and replied to all the people calling him out for keeping his legs on the World Cup trophy. Speaking about the controversy on Sen radio, Marsh defended his act of keeping his feet on the WC trophy and even said that he would like to do the same again.

However, he also made it clear that his intention was not to disrespect the World Cup trophy saying, “There was obviously no disrespect meant in that photo at all.” Later, the cricketer even claimed that despite several people telling him about the controversy triggered by the viral picture, he has personally not seen much about the same on social media.

Previously, ace Indian bowler Mohammed Shami criticized Marsh over his act while saying that it hurts him to see a World Cup trophy, which many dream of keeping over their head, placed underneath the foot of a cricketer.

The pace maestro said, “I am hurt. The Trophy for which all the teams in the World fight, the Trophy which you want to lift over your head, keeping a foot on that Trophy did not make me happy”.

Mitchell Marsh criticizes Ind vs Aus T20 series timings

Meanwhile, after lifting their 6th ODI World Cup title by defeating India with 6 wickets in the CWC 2023 final on 19th November, the majority of the Aussie team left for their homes after taking part in the initial 3 matches of the ongoing T20 series between India and Australia.

Speaking about the bad timings of the series, Marsh asserted that ICC and cricket boards should refrain from holding such bilateral series right after big tournaments like the ICC World Cup as the cricketers are also humans and have a right to be with their families and celebrate their triumph.

However, he also emphasized the importance of the ongoing series saying, “It’s a fine line because we’ve got to respect the fact we’re playing for Australia and it’s a series against India which is always really big.”
