New Delhi: Who doesn’t remember Afghani cricketer Naveen-ul-Haq’s ‘sweet mango’ post and the stir it created on social media?

It was during a crucial IPL game between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Banglore when Naveen shared a cryptic post on his Twitter (X) right after the fall of Virat Kohli’s wicket.

In his post, the cricketer wrote “sweet mangoes” and attached it with a picture of his TV screen that showcased stills from the MI vs RCB match post-Virat’s departure.

Although Naveen didn’t mention anyone in his cryptic tweet, the timing of his post’s timing as well as his heated exchange of words with Virat, which happened in a previous IPL game between RCB and LSG, was more than enough to convince the fans that Naveen’s tweet is an indirect attack on the Indian Cricket.

This resulted in the Afghan pacer getting brutally trolled by Virat’s fans who roasted him on the internet as well as from the stands of cricket stadiums.

However, in a recently held interview, Naveen finally broke his silence on the matter and clarified that his “sweet mango” post was not at all related to Virat in any manner but people misunderstood it and took it in an entirely different direction.

Naveen’s clarification on ‘Sweet Mango’controvercy

Speaking about the controversy, Naveen said, ” Dhawal Bahi ko mai 3-4 din se bol raha tha yar mujhe mango khane hai to wo mango leke aaya that.” (I was telling Dhawal for 3-4 days that I wanted to have mangoes and he brought them for me)

He further added”Mai mango kha raha tha aur smane tV tha maine sweet mango likha aur logo ne use dusre tarike se le liya, maine kuch nahi kiya aur socha logo ko maze lene do mango ka season that.” (I was having mangoes while watching the match on TV so I wrote sweet mango and people took it differently. I didn’t do anything and just left it. People enjoy mangoes and it was mango’s season as well.)

When Virat told Naveen to ‘Finish It’

Later in the interview, Naveen also narrated the BTS of his patch-up with Virat Kohli during the CWC 2023 encounter between India and Afghanistan in Delhi.

The pacer said that during the drinks break, he made eye contact with Virat for a moment who then told him to finish things off. Naveen agreed with Kohli as they let bygones be bygones by exchanging a warm hug, laughter, and agreement.

Naveen further revealed that after he reconciled with Virat, the latter assured him that he wouldn’t hear his (Virat’s) name from the fans anymore and would get their support instead. Following that, Virat even signaled to the crowd to stop booing Naveen by chanting his name.
