Pakistan Super League to clash with IPL in 2025, lack of window in FTP

Champions Trophy in February has forced PCB to mark a window between March and May for the 10th edition of PSL, while IPL has a window of March to June.

New Delhi: Pakistan Super League is on the way to clash with the biggest cricket and second largest sports league, IPL in 2025. The situation has raised due to a packed schedule for Pakistan in the ICC’s Future Tours Program. ICC announced the men’s FTP on August 17 and since then a clash between IPL and PSL has been a matter of discussion for fans and experts.

Not just due to the bilateral series, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is facing a time crunch due to the ICC event that year. Pakistan is set to host an ICC event after a long time in the form of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy. This will mark Pakistan’s first ICC event as hosts after the 1996 World Cup. Pakistan had security concerns, which stopped it from hosting some series and events. However, the country has started to host major teams in the last three years. The nation will host all Full Member teams in the upcoming 2023-27 FTP except for India.

The calendar hints at the 11th edition of PSL being held in December 2025-January 2026 while the 2027 season is to be held in its usual window in January-February. With IPL being much bigger this time, the clash between the two leagues might impact the viewership and finances of the PSL.

Meanwhile, Pakistan will play  27 Tests, 26 ODIs and 27 T20Is in the next four years. The PCB will also host two triangular series, which are rarely seen these days. The series will be played among Pakistan, South Africa and New Zealand in February 2025 and with England and Sri Lanka in 2026.
