New Delhi: Staying grounded and staying humble is a choice that people make willingly and consciously. The same is the case for middle-order left-hand batsman Rinku Singh who has stayed on with KKR for 7 long years. Rinku’s perseverance and belief on his side have seen the light as KKR goes on to win their third IPL trophy after a lull of 10 years.

Rinku’s performance has also earned him a national side call-up. Although Rinku joins the squad as a travelling reserve, Rohit Sharma can toss his name in the playing XI if he requires explosiveness in the death over for a grand finish batting first. Rinku was the centre of media attention recently after the left-hand batsman even after being one of the finest T20 finishers earned only 50-55 lakhs while his KKR teammate Mitchell Starc earned 24.75 crore, thereby becoming the most expensive IPL player in history.

When asked about the payment inequality between Mitchell Starc and him in an interview with Dainik Jagaran, Rinku remarked, “Even 50-55 lakhs is a lot. When I started, I had not even thought that I would earn so much. At that time, I was a kid and if I got even 10-5 rupees, I thought I would get it somehow. Now I am getting 55 lakh rupees, so this is a lot, I should be happy with whatever God gives me…”


This also demonstrates the type of man Rinku is who has made cricket the main motto of his life rather than the monetary benefit that is accrued on the way. Singh has given a philosophical angle to the entire incident by stating that a person comes and goes from this world without a single penny in his/her pocket. Naturally, the main thing that one has to do throughout his/her life is to stay humble and connected to the roots.
