The 48th match of the Indian Premier League was witnessed between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). The match started at 3:30 in Sharjah Cricket Stadium, but soon a controversy ensued on their way. In the 8th over of RCB’s innings, Devdutt Padikkal was ready to hit the ball delivered by PBKS bowler Ravi Bishnoi.
Unfortunately, the Devdutt was unable to hit the delivery and the ball got in the hands of KL Rahul. Both Bishnoi and Rahul rejoiced the moment and appealed vigorously. However, the on-field umpire did not feel like there was anything in it, but the Punjab skipper asked for a review through DRS, confident about it being a wicket.
In the review, the Ultraedge showed a spike while the ball passed Devdutt’s glove. The TV umpire, K Srinivasan was not convinced that it was a wicket and ended up giving a clean chit to the batsman.
The clear ‘not out’ decision wasn’t pleasing at all to captain Rahul, who went to the umpire Ananthapadmanabhan to discuss the matter but he was unmoved.
Nor were the fans and pundits were please with the decision. Former New Zealand cricketer Scott Styris took to Twitter illustrating some harsh words in regards to the third umpire. “Sack the 3rd umpire immediately. What a joke!” tweeted Styris.

DRS can’t eliminate howlers if umpires ignore what it says. ?♂️ #RCBvPBKS

Who trains umpires in India? Why have they been so incompetent for so many years, with the odd exception. How can they not be properly trained for a tournament as big as the IPL? Just baffles me. #IPL2021 #RCBvPBKS

Does “spirit of cricket” include batters walking out when know they nicked a ball or at least when the DRS on the giant screen confirms the same? #staraikelungal
