“The perception is far away from the reality…” Virat Kohli breaks silence on his past feud with Gautam Gambhir

BCCI was concerned whether this estranged relationship between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir would affect the side Gambhir became head coach.

New Delhi: Gautam Gambhir has succeeded in a very turbulent and tumultuous period. What looked like a peaceful transition for the coaching responsibilities from Rahul Dravid’s tenure following a win in the T20 World Cup 2024. However, things have spiralled out leading to one after another backdoor controversy. Starting from Amit Mishra’s online podcast to the ‘Hardik-Surya’ captaincy feud in T20Is to now Hardik’s divorce.

Amidst all this hiatus, media attention has now turned to Gambhir’s ‘coaching’ saga and his troubled past with Virat Kohli. Both the players had a spiced-up past which started longback in 2012 and 2013. Subsequently, there was a period of calm with Kohli continuing his journey while Gautam reclined in the shadows. However, things have flared up once again between Gautam and Kohli with the two going head-to-head against each other on the field during IPL 2023.

Naturally, BCCI was concerned whether this estranged relationship would affect the side when Gauti took charge of the Indian National Cricket team. Both Gambhir and Virat are known to be passionate about the sport when they play for their national teams. Subsequently, things are bound to be heated up when they meet on the field. However, as things turned out Kohli has been very cordial and positive about his relationship with GG.

Amidst all the brewing speculations, Kohli has come out in the open and assured his continued support to Gautam Gambhir. Speaking about all the chatter that is unnecessary momentum from the people, GG responded, “The perception is far away from the reality…” Gautam Gambhir who is known to be an expressive person has given Kohli due cognizance in the way the latter had responded to events in the past.


Even Kohli admitted that people are hungry for ‘masala’ which was generated from the feud between the two. However, addressing this “problematic” attitude of the people at a Puma event, Kohli reminded everyone that both of them have moved well past that phase of life. Kohli is currently travelling with the team for the ODI series which is scheduled in Sri Lanka.
