Virat Kohli is in touching distance to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the fastest player to reach 27,000 international runs.

New Delhi: Virat Kohli is in touching distance to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the fastest player to reach 27,000 international runs. In the process, Kohli is also set to become the fastest player to reach this milestone. Kohli has 80 international tons and is second to Tendulkar (100) in terms of number of centuries.

Tendulkar is the fastest to reach 27,000 runs in international cricket – 623 innings (226 Test innings, 396 ODI innings, 1 T20I innings). Kohli on the other hand has so far played 591 innings and is at 26942 runs, 58 short of the magic number!

Virat Kohli is set to play in the upcoming Bangladesh tour of India. If everything goes well, the 35-year-old is well on course to breach the fortress of the Master Blaster. Earlier in the year, Kohli won the ICC T20 World Cup and bid adieu to the shortest format of the game.

India Squad for Bangladesh Tour

The ‘27,000 runs’ club!

Apart from Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli (most likely), many other great players are also part of the prestigious ‘27,000’ club. Australia’s Ricky Ponting and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara also have runs above 27,000.

If Kohli manages to achieve the record in the upcoming tour, the 35-year-old is set to join a prestigious club that only a few cricketers have managed to reach.
