WATCH: R Ashwin and umpire Nitin Menon get into heated exchange on Day 3 of Ind-NZ Test

Ravichandran Aswin and umpire Nitin Menon got into heated argument over the bowler running across the umpire.

New Delhi: During the third day of the New Zealand tour of India Test series, Indian bowler Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed the spotlight as he engaged himself in a heated argument with on-field umpire Nitin Menon. The off-spinner made his first breakthrough to India on Saturday by getting tough at the opener Will Young. Moreover, he was getting good assistance from the pitch. Eventually, he delivered the ball from closer to the wickets and ran up across the umpire.

Notably, the umpire Nitin Menon looked unimpressed with Aswin’s action and on several occasions was seen speaking to the spinner. Soon, the skipper Ajinkya Rahane joined the conversation and the episode looked quite heated up as Aswin was a bit intimidated.

In the meantime, Ashwin walked off in the middle of the conversation. As the over got completed, Menon calmly had a quick chat with the bowler. The television replays showed that every time the umpire tried speaking to Aswin, the bowler had his own explanation ready. However, the blower kept on bowling from round the wicket.

Earlier, Aswin seemed disappointed with Menon for not obliging to an LBW call against Tom Latham in the 73rd over. The ball spun and moved to hit the front pad of the batsman. Though it looked like LBW, the umpire did not show any interest. Moreover, the hosts did not review it but the replay and the ball-tacking resembled that the ball would have hit the stumps.

Aswin, who urged for another wicket in hand, looked dissatisfied as he kicked the ground in frustration after completing the over.
