With Kohli dropping to No. 3! Can Team India solve the batting conundrum in the Super 8s?

According to insider reports, there is a probability that Virat Kohli might get back his original position at 3.

New Delhi: After topping the Group A, team India’s quest for silverware at the T20 World Cup has switched to the Caribbean. India’s group stage journey has been a mixed bag of highs and lows. The men in blue managed to win all its games- Ireland, Pakistan and the USA, with the last game ending in a washout.

However, amidst this glittering performance, there have been some rough patches which need immediate attention. The first and foremost is the batting enigma that grips the team. With the “Ro-Ko” formula failing, will India look towards Plan B? Furthermore, will Virat Kohli be dropped or moved to his original position of No. 3?

Kohli to get back to the original position!

According to insider reports, there is a probability that Virat Kohli might get back his original position at 3. This makes the opening position vacant for Yashasvi Jaiswal. Another possible combination that Dravid can go ahead with is swapping Rishab Pant’s and Virat Kohli‘s positions which doesn’t change the playing XI.

Pant has been a reliable opener in the past and might solve the batting problems up top. If Yashasvi is drafted in the side, then either Axar Patel or Ravindra Jadeja will be axed. The authorities might be tempted to draft Jadeja even after his poor form due to the batting that the CSK man provides down the order.

On the other hand, given the rack turner that Barbadian pitches provide, there is a chance that India might go ahead with only 2 pacers. That means a toss-up between Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav.

Probable XI of Team India against Afghanistan

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishab Pant, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel/Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav/Arshdeep Singh.
