The government has released notifications to make travel free for women in all Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses on the basis of issuance of "Single Journey Free Travel Pass" by bus conductors.

Speaking at the event, Kejriwal said that it is a huge step towards providing convenience to the people and will strengthen Delhi's public transport.

On March 8 earlier this year, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved three of the six corridors proposed under Phase-IV of the Delhi Metro.

On August 26, Delhi Finance Minister Manish Sisodia tabled a proposal for allocating a budget of Rs 290 crore for implementing a free ride scheme for women commuters in Delhi Metro and DTC buses.

The move was in line with the decisions taken during a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) held on Wednesday, Pakistan Minister for Communications and Postal Services Murad Saeed said.

Three Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) staffers, including the driver, conductor and bus marshal are facing action after a video showed them with a girl dancing inside the bus. The driver of the government-run bus has been suspended, the conductor has been served a show-cause notice and the bus marshal has been sent back to the Civil Defence Office, said the DTC in an order dated July 15.

The three are accused of negligence of duty, misused the DTC bus for making the video, unauthorised use of government property and maligning image of the public transporter," the DTC order added

On Monday, Kejriwal announced free ride for women in all Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses, cluster buses and Delhi Metro trains, in order to provide a safe travel experience to them.
