'Joker' is the fourth DC comic title to cross 1 billion USD mark, after Aquaman (USD 1.15 billion), The Dark Knight Rises (USD 1.084 billion) and The Dark Knight (USD 1.005 billion).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 'Joker' came away with three wins, including best actor for Joaquin Phoenix and the British Academy's inaugural casting award. Renee Zellweger won the best actress, meanwhile Brad Pitt won the best supporting actor for 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' and Laura Dern received the best-supporting actress for 'Marriage Story'.

The flick recently claimed the Golden Frog Award for its cinematography at the EnergaCamerimage Festival in Torun, Poland, on Saturday.

Joker can be classified into the neo noir genre and is rather a dark film about depths of despair, depression, degeneration, desperation leading to death and general disorder, so graphically depicted that audiences come out disappointed and dispirited.

The Angelina Jolie starring is performing better overseas, where it grossed USD 64.3 million over the weekend.

Apart from Phoenix, the movie also features Robert De Niro, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.

The film focuses on the love story of the parents (Priyanka and Farhan) spanning 25 years which is narrated by their teenage daughter - Aisha (Zaira). Aisha becomes a motivational speaker before passing away due to pulmonary fibrosis at a young age.

'Joker' directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role, had been the subject of scrutiny in the weeks leading up to its release over fears that the disturbing origin story of Batman's infamous foe could inspire violence, reported Variety.

The upcoming flick is a part of the DC Comics universe but will serve as an independent origin story and will not feature any appearances by Batman and other caped crusaders.

The psychological drama also stars veteran De Niro and Marc Maron of 'Deadpool 2' fame.The film directed by Todd Phillips is written by the director along with Scott Silver.
