Ms. MehboobaMufti unanimously re-elected as president of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for a period of three years.

PAGD bagged 112 seats in the first-ever elections to the 288 District Development Councils (DDCs) while BJP emerged as the single-largest party winning 74 seats.

BJP has won 32 seats followed by Independents with 28 seats. J&K NationalConference has bagged 32 seats, Peoples Democratic Party 17, Congress 11, J&K Apni Party 7. CPI(M) has won 5 seats while J&K Peoples Conference 3 seats and JKPM 2. J&K Panthers party won one seat.

J&K DDC Elections: Parties including National Conference, People's Democratic Party (PDP), Peoples Conference and CPI(M), formed People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration and are fighting DDC elections together.

Mufti was released on October 14 after being in detention from August 5 last year following the abrogation of the special status of the erstwhile state.

In 2015, BJP entered into an alliance with PDP as no party could get a majority in 2014 Assembly polls in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

PDP leaders TS Bajwa, Ved Mahajan and Hussain A Waffa sent resignation letters to party chief Mehbooba Mufti.

Addressing her press conference after being released from detention, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said: "My flag is this (J&K flag). When this flag comes back, we will raise that flag (tricolour) too. Until we get our own flag back, we won't raise any other flag."

Mufti and many other leaders of Kashmir, including Farooq Abdullah, were put in detention last year following the abrogation of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution that accorded special status to the erstwhile state.
