New Delhi: The Met Gala, also known as the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit, is a yearly charity event held in New York City on the first Monday in May to raise money for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Simply said, the Costume Institute is the sole division of the Met that is self-sufficient, and it does this through its single yearly gala. The event is strictly by invitation only, with just a select few A-listers from diverse sectors making the cut each year. The topic of the year, which also acts as the inspiration for that year’s Costume Institute show, is encouraged attendees to dress accordingly.
