However, refuting the claims, PIB said that no such fare hike has been planned by the Indian Railways. “This claim is #Fake and #Baseless. There is NO proposal under consideration to increase the fares,” Press Information Bureau’s fact check handle tweeted.

On Tuesday, Railways also termed these reports as baseless. “Certain sections of media have reported about the possibility of some hike in passenger fares. This news is baseless and without any factual basis. There is no proposal under consideration to increase fares. Media is advised to not to publish or circulate such reports,” IR said in a statement.

The viral claim of Railways increasing passenger fare is FALSE.
