At least 50 feared dead as Tornado rips through Kentucky

At least 50 people are featured to be dead after tornado hit Kentucky and other states of U.S.

New Delhi: As many as 50 people are “likely” to be dead owing to the destructive outbreak of tornadoes that swiped through Kentucky and other states of the U.S. on late Friday and early Saturday, stated Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear to the Washington Post.

The Post quoted Beshear while speaking to a local TV station WLKY that the number of deceased could be “significantly north of that.”

“The reports are really heartbreaking,” The Post quoted him saying. Besides, a spokeswoman for the state’s emergency management service added that the accurate figures for death or injuries have not been confirmed by the rescue officials as of early Saturday.

In Tennessee, the harsh weather killed at least three people, reported the Post quoting Dean Flener, the spokesman for the state’s Emergency Management Agency.

Reportedly, at least one person was killed and five were injured when the tornado broke the roof of a nursing home in Monette in northern Arkansas, the Post quoted the officials.

In Illinois, many people were trapped when a roof partially collapsed at an Amazon.com Inc warehouse near St. Louis on Friday, after the tornado and strong winds ripped through the area.

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker took to Twitter saying: “My prayers are with the people of Edwardsville tonight.”

“Our Illinois State Police and Illinois Emergency Management Agency are both coordinating closely with local officials and I will continue to monitor the situation,” he added.

Beshear declared a state of emergency in the state, saying that the damage would be, “some of the worst … we’ve seen in a long time.”
