Pakistan: Opposition to sit on dharna in national assembly till no-trust vote is held

“The Parliament cannot be dissolved, govt must face the no-trust vote. Imran Khan has exposed himself with this juvenile act”

New Delhi: The opposition forefront in Pakistan is preparing to stage dharna in the national assembly till the no-trust vote against the Imran Khan government is held, says Pakistan Peoples’ Party leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday.

After Pakistan national assembly’s deputy speaker Qasim Suri rejected the no-trust vote on grounds of national security, Zardari took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “Government has violated the constitution, did not allow voting on no-confidence motion. The united opposition is not leaving parliament. Our lawyers are on their way to Supreme Court. We call on ALL institutions to protect, uphold, defend & implement the constitution of Pakistan”.

In the video address, Zardari said, “At the last moment, the Speaker took an illegal step. Pakistan’s law was broken. As per law, the no-trust vote is to happen today. The united opposition has decided to stage a dharna in national assembly till we are given our legal right. Our lawyers will reach the Supreme Court to ensure that the no-trust vote happens today”.

“The Parliament cannot be dissolved, (the government) must face the no-trust vote. Imran Khan has exposed himself with this juvenile act”, he added.

Meanwhile, member of one of the opposition allies Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) party Kamran Murtaza, said that a petition to challenge the Speaker’s ruling in the Supreme Court is being drafted.

“It will be filed as per the decision of the Opposition leadership,” said Murtaza.
