Polish Olympian auctions her Silver medal for fundraising, but bidder won’t accept it

Miloszek needed Rs. 2.86 crores for the surgery. Over 90 per cent of the amount has been raised through Miloszek’s donation page yet.

New Delhi: Within days of nabbing a silver medal at Tokyo Olympics 2020, Polish javelin thrower Maria Andrejczyk decides to auction her medal for a noble cause.

Andrejczyk took to Facebook on August 11, to announce the auction of her Olympic medal in order to raise funds for an 8 year-old infant Miłoszek Małysa, who needed to fly to Stanford University of California from Poland, to have a life saving heart surgery.

Though, Małysa is a complete stranger to Andrejczyk, who chose to raise the funds after reading online pleas from her parents. The baby has Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Connection (TAPVC), which is a major disfunction of his pulmonary veins.

A Polish convenience store chain called Zabka made the winning bid. Though in a warm gesture, Zabka declined to keep Andrejczyk’s medal, saying that it belonged to her.

Miloszek needed 1.5 million Polish zloty for the heart surgery (Rs. 2.86 crores). Over 90 per cent of the amount has been raised through Miloszek’s donation page yet.
