Stranded ship at Suez canal freed: Did it play ‘Dhoom’ tune to celebrate? Video elicits many reactions

The Ever Given container ship that has been blocking the Suez Canal for almost a week, was finally pulled free on Monday. The crew of Ever Given consisted of 25 persons and all were Indians, reports claimed.

New Delhi: Blocking of Egypt’s Suez Canal due to a ship running aground dominated the headlines last week. The vessel was finally re-floated on Sunday, giving cheer for the resumption of one of the important trade routes. But, there was an Indian connection to the global event as the crew of  the ship was reportedly fully Indian, and that seemed to have an effect as they played an Indian tune to celebrate as the ship set off again.

‘Dhoom’ twist

The moment took place when tugs blared their horn in celebration after close to a week of futility, that flooded the internet with memes. A video surfaced on Twitter from the ship leaving the Suez Canal along with numerous ships in the sea. The ship was heard blaring horns and it seemed familiar, because it was the much-popular tune of ‘Dhoom’. Sharing the video, a Twitter user claimed that it was so because it was ‘100 per cent Indian staff.’

Mayur Puri, who was an associate director of the 2004 action-packed high octane film also tweeted the video.

The Ever Given container ship that has been blocking the Suez Canal for almost a week, was finally pulled free on Monday. The crew of Ever Given consisted of 25 persons and all were Indians, reports claimed.

The massive vessel was hauled using tug boats away from the side of waterway where it had been lodged since last Tuesday, halting the crucial trade route.

The 400-meter long Ever Given operated by Taiwan’s Evergreen Marine Corp had created a bottleneck in the vital trade artery connecting the Mediterranean to the Red Sea, with more than 300 ships waiting to enter or complete their journey through the canal.

The ship was bound for Rotterdam in the Netherlands from China when it became stuck in the canal.
