New Delhi: Tarek Fatah, a highly-acclaimed columnist & known Pakistan baiter passed away on Monday, April 24, after a prolonged illness.
Tarek Fatah was born in Pakistan but lived most of his life in Canada. He was a prolific commentator on ills plaguing Islam and also a world-renowned TV personality.
His daughter Natasha took to Twitter to confirm the news about his demise in Canada. He was 73 years old.
She described Fatah as ‘Lion of Punjab, Son of Hindustan & Lover of Canada’

The ace columnist was reportedly suffering from cancer. He is survived by 2 daughters – Natasha & Nazia.

Tarek Fateh was a strong critic of Pakistan & fierce supporter of India. In his frequent appearance on TV channels, he used to rebuke Pakistan for its over-reliance on radical Islamism even in governance. He used to mock Pakistan at many occasions and also drew huge praise for speaking his mind over ‘radicalization’ of the Islamic world.
He was born to a Punjabi Muslim family in Punjab. He migrated from Karachi to Bombay in 1947. He often called himself an ‘Indian born in Pakistan’ & a ‘Punjabi born into Islam’.
He was also a strong votary of LGBT rights. He opposed the Sharia law & always advocated for liberal form of Islam.
He was debarred from journalism by Pakistan’s Zia-ul-Haq govt, following which he moved to Canada and lived till his last breadth.
He has penned several books namely ‘Chasing a Mirage: The tragic illusion of an Islamic State’ and ‘The Jews is Not My Enemy: Unveiling the Myths that fuel Muslim Anti-Semitism’
