Ukrainian woman gives birth to baby girl in air-raid shelter in Kyiv amid Russian invasion

Russia continues to attack Ukraine with missiles, tanks, and other armed possessions while civilians have been using subway stations as air-raid shelters in Kyiv.

New Delhi: Amid the horrors of war intensifying in Ukraine owing to Russia’s invasion, a family had a moment of joy after a young woman went into labour and gave birth to a child at an underground shelter. The picture of the baby girl was shared online and hailed her as a ‘beacon of hope’ in the war-torn country.

Russia continues to attack Ukraine with missiles, tanks, and other armed possessions while civilians have been using subway stations as air-raid shelters in Kyiv. One of them, a young lady of 23 years who was expecting soon went into labour pain and delivered a baby amid the chaos and devastation.

The news was shared by Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Twitter on Saturday. Along with the picture of the little one, the official account captioned it, “First (to our knowledge) baby was born in one of the shelters in Kyiv. Under the ground, next to the burning buildings and Russian tanks We shall call her Freedom!”

According to a leading daily, Daily Mail, the child was born around 8:30 AM on Friday as “as she hid protected from the onslaught in a shelter in the city as gunfire raged outside.” The report stated that the Ukrainian police heard the mother’s screams and rushed to help her “One officer Mykola Shlapak said they helped her deliver the little girl and called an ambulance which took them both to hospital.” Reportedly, the girl child was actually named Mia. Both mother and daughter are in good health conditions.

This child is believed to be the spring of hope in the war-torn country. Netizens are showering love and blessing to the little daughter of Ukraine and wishing her and her family a safe life ahead. One of the well-wishers commented, “#ukraine will continue to move forward and bring life into the world as it maybe ripped apart #PutinIsaWarCriminal.”

Another one wrote, “When Mia is older and Ukraine is safe from threats, her mom is going to tell her about how difficult it was to bring her into the world, but also that millions of people all over the world celebrated when she got here.”
