Dubai closes Hindu temple on Maha Shivratri, only virtual celebration for devotees

To let the devotees get the blessings of their diety, a virtual celebration has been planned which will be live on the Youtube channel of the temple called ‘Hindu Temple Dubai’. People can go to the channel on Friday to watch the live stream.

New Delhi: This year, there will no Maha Shivratri celebration in the premises of Shiva temple in Bur Dubai as the temple will remain closed on the auspicious day. Hwoever,  devotees will be able to hold virtual celebration to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Currently the temple opens for an hour in the morning and evening for conducting pujas.

In the view of Covid-19 pandemic, Gurudarbar Sindhi temple management has requested devotees to not visit the temple to celebrate the festival in honor of Lord Shiva. Temple has announced that the doors of the temple will be closed on 12th March in line with the Covid-19 protocols.

“We don’t want thousands of people to gather and cause concerns about the spread of the virus. Hence, we decided to close the temple for celebrations by the public as a precautionary measure from our side to ensure safety and security of the community,” a temple trustee.

Holi celebrations may also remain restricted

One of the trustees said a decision is yet to be taken regarding the celebration of ‘Holi’ another major Hindu festival. Holi is on 28th March, 2021. He said, “We will see the situation and take a call on Holi, closer to the festival.”

Holi celebrations are very famous in Dubai when non-Hindus also join the community in public venues to splash water colours and powdered colours on each other.
