New Delhi: Anant Chaturdashi, a day which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This day is marked as one of the most significant day to worship Lord Vishnu in his eternal form — known as Anant.
The festival is celebrated every year in the Bhaadrapad month of Shukla Paksh.
On the occasion of Anant Chaturdashi, devotees observe a day-long fast and then tie a sacred thread called “Anant Sutra.” Devotees offer their prayers and pray for a peaceful and prosperous life.
Anant Chaturdashi, is celebrated every year on the 10th day of Ganesh Chaturthi. This year Anant Chaturdashi will be celebrated on September 9.
This day is marked as one of the most auspicious day as on this day people also bid adieu to Lord Ganesh. Ananth Chaturdashi falls on the same day when Lord Ganesh idols are immersed in a water body after the 10-day long festival.

Anant Chaturdashi: About the Story
On this day, every year, devotees offer prayers to Lord Vishnu, and sacred 14-knot thread-known as Anant Sutra — is tied on the right hand. The reason behind tying this sacred thread is with ‘kumkum’ is believed to protect an individual from evil forces.
A Brahmin’s daughter named Sushila is believed to have taken the “Anant vow” soon after her marriage to a man named Kaundinya, and prayed to Lord Lord Ananat for a prosperous life.
She followed all the rituals and also tied a ceremonial thread with 14 knot on her hand. Sushila was blessed with good fortune and prosperous life.
However, her husband did not believe in the blessings and thought that it was all because of his hard work. Soon, the couple started facing many misfortunes and endure poverty.
It was only after this that Kaundinya realised his mistakes and understood that all that they have achieved is all because of the rituals and the main reasons behind their happiness and prosperity.
Following which he asked for forgiveness from Lord Ananta. And it was during this period when Lord Ananta finally revealed himself as Lord Vishnu.
