New Delhi: Shravan Purnima, is considered as one of the most auspicious period of the year which falls in the month of Shravana and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. On this day people worship and offer prayers to Lord Shiva.

In the month of Shravana, Raksha Bandhan is also celebrated. Raksha Bandhan is a festival when sisters tie sacred thread-rakhi on the wrist of their brothers.

The Purnima which falls in Shukla Paksha of Shravana Month is also known as Shravana Shukla Purnima.

This year Shravan Shukla Purnima falls on 11 August, 2022.

Shravan Purnima is celebrated as Narali and Narayali and Avani Avittam in South India, Kajari Poonam in Central India. And there are several other names by which this day is celebrated in other parts of the country.

Narali Purnima:

Narali Purnima, also known as Coconut Day is a very important festival which is celebrated basically by the Hindus in the western coastal regions of India.

According to the Hindu calendar, this day is observed on the Purnima (full moon) in the month of Shravana, and this is the reason which this day is referred as Shravana Purnima.

Going by the English calendar, this day falls between the months of July-August every year.
