Deliveries for the diesel-powered X1 will begin in March 2023, and those for the petrol-powered variant will begin in June 2023, according to the automaker. Here are the details of the new X1.

New Delhi: The third-generation, brand-new BMW X1 got introduced in India at the current BMW Joytown festival in Bengaluru. The new X1 lacks all-wheel drive but is still available with both gasoline and diesel engines, just like the model from the previous generation.

Deliveries for the diesel-powered X1 will begin in March 2023, and those for the petrol-powered variant will begin in June 2023, according to the automaker. Here are the details of the new X1.

Exterior and Interior:

The new BMW X1 is bigger than the outgoing model in every measure, measuring 53mm longer, 24mm broader, 44mm higher, and 22mm wider at the wheelbase.

The new X1’s appearance may best be defined as an evolution over the outgoing model; it features a slightly wider grille, more sharper creases in the bumper, brushed silver accents, and leaner headlamps with new inverted L-shaped Daytime Running Lamps. The SUV includes smooth surfaces, flush door locks, and 18-inch alloy wheels upon that India-spec model.

To the back are added slim encircling LED taillights and a carved rear bumper featuring the same silver accents as on the front. It still looks like an X1, but it seems a lot more grown up now. On the M Sport versions, the front and rear bumpers look sportier.

Inside, there is a new curved infotainment display that elegantly rests atop the dashboard and was previously spotted on other BMW models like the new X7, 7 Series, and 3 Series Gran Limousine. This has also made it possible to create a dashboard with new storage areas and a floating cabin that contains a few physical buttons that is considerably cleaner. The tiny AC vents are now tastefully incorporated into the dash, giving the interior a considerably more sophisticated appearance than it had before. According to BMW, the new X1 boasts a roomy 476-liter trunk and increased space for passengers in the back seats.

Powertrain options:

For the new BMW X1, clients in India can select between a petrol or a diesel engine. 136 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque are produced by the 1.5-liter, three-cylinder gasoline engine, while 150 horsepower and 360 pound-feet of torque are produced by the 2.0-liter, four-cylinder diesel engine. Due to the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission connected to both engines, power is only sent towards the front wheels. Contrary to some of its rivals, the X1 lacks all-wheel drive in India.

According to BMW, the gasoline version can reach 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds and the diesel version 8.9 seconds. Furthermore, they claim that the gasoline has a fuel efficiency rating of 16.3 kpl from ARAI as opposed to the latter’s 20.37 kpl.

Other features:

The third-generation X1 comes with a host of features, including a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a 10.70-inch infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ADAS, tailgate operation, LED headlights, and a parking assist feature. The M Sport version adds a massaging feature for the front seats yet both the versions come standard with Sports seats.

Prices for different variants:

In the market for entry-level luxury SUVs, the new BMW X1 competes with the Mercedes-Benz GLA  at Rs 46.50 lakh–50.50 lakh, new Audi Q3 from Rs 44.89 lakh–50.39 lakh, while the Mini Countryman starts at Rs 47.40 lakh, and Volvo XC40 at Rs 45.90 lakh.
