Honda Cars India lists future plans including launch of EV

The company aims to bring new models or product refreshes every year from 2023 onwards.

New Delhi: Auto companies are investing and bringing up electric vehicles as a sustainable alternatives to vehicles run by fuel. Aligning their growth with government policies, Honda Cars India is no exception in a vision to expand the EV market by 2030. The company aims to bring new models or product refreshes every year from 2023 onwards.

Kunal Behl, senior VP and director marketing and sales in the firm, said that the company has an electric vehicle in their future lineup. Talking about the future course of action, he also said that HCI’s second launch after new Honda City will be an ICE SUV, which is their global product with India as the leading country. Behl revealed that phasing out its hatchback models is Honda’s overarching strategy.

Talking about the EVs, he said that their global vision is to achieve carbon neutrality and zero traffic fatality by 2050 and for that they will have 100 percent of their sales as EVs by 2040.

To work on their target, the company is expanding City e:HEV by introducing a new variant at Rs 1 lakh lesser price point than the ZX variant. Honda Sensing driver assist system has been brought to the petrol model after first introducing it in City e:HEV and Behl said that the technology will be available in majority of Honda City models.

He also said that the auto company is focusing on Tamil Nadu market due to its growth as a mid-size sedan market. He said that HCI controls about 37 percent of mid-size sedan market in the state, which makes it a crucial market for them.
