Volkswagen shares teaser images ahead of its release of compact sedan

Volkswagen will be launching its compact sedan expected to be named Volkswagen Virtus on March 8.

The German carmaker Volkswagen is all set to make a global debut of the upcoming compact sedan in India on March 8. Ahead of its release, the company shared the first few images of the upcoming car. The compact sedan is expected to be called Volkswagen Virtus is based on the MQB-A0-IN platform on which Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Slavia, and Skoda Kushaq SUV are underpinned.

Notably, the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus will be replacing the outdated Volkswagen Vento in the country, as a premium model from the Wolfsburg automaker.

The teaser image unveiled by the company focuses on the details of the car design such as the LED headlamps, a bolder grille, and a chunkier front bumper, apart from the boot lip spoiler and the GT badging on the front. The new sedan looks much sharper, cleaner with a wider air dam and integrated LED DRLs.

The car’s body measures 4,541 mm in length, 1,752 mm in width, 1,487 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,651 mm, similar to the Skoda Slavia.

Volkswagen Virtus

It is expected that the Volkswagen Virtus’ interior will be similar to Skoda Slavia’s. The interior would feature a wide-laid-out cabin apart from a 10-inch infotainment display compatible with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto.

Besides, the sedan would also provide a fully digital 8-inch instrument cluster, multi-functional steering wheel, and wireless charger, apart from ventilated front seats, rear Ac vents, amongst others.

Volkswagen Virtus

For powering the Volkswagen Virtus, the makers have inbuilt a 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder engine that develops 113 bhp and 175 Nm of peak torque, and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI unit that is good enough for 148 bhp and 250 Nm. Both the engines will provide a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard besides, an optional 6-speed automatic torque convertor for the three-pot unit and a 7-speed DSG automatic for the four-pot unit.
