New Delhi: The dreaded Covid-19 is rearing its ugly head again as numbers are increasing by day. According to government statistics, 6 states have recorded an upsurge in active cases of Covid19. These states are Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
Union Health Ministry said, Maharashtra continues to report the highest daily new cases at 8,333. It is followed by Kerala with 3,671 while Punjab reported 622 new cases.
The Ministry said, 8 six states and UTs account for 82.3% of new deaths. Maharashtra saw the maximum casualties of 48.
Punjab follows with 15 and Kerala reported 14 deaths in the last 24 hours.
Over 1.42 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered
Health Ministry said more than 1.42 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered to beneficiaries in the country so far. A total of 7.96 lakh doses of vaccine were given to health care and frontline workers in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the country’s COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 97.14 per cent with recovery of more than 12,000 patients within 24 hours. The Ministry said, more than 1.7 crore patients have already recovered from this disease.
Active cases @ 1.59 lakh
Presently, the total number of active cases in the country is 1.59 lakh which comprises only 1.44 per cent of the total positive cases.
A total of 16,488 new cases were reported in the country in the past 24 hours taking the cumulative positive cases to over one crore ten lakh.
The Health Ministry said, 113 deaths were reported within 24 hours taking the toll to over 1.56 lakh across the country.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that various laboratories conducted more than 7.73 lakh tests of Coronavirus samples during 24 hours and more than 21.54 crore tests have been done in the country so far.
