Elaborate arrangements in place for smooth conduct of Delhi assembly elections on Saturday

Election Commission and other agencies have made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the poll. For the seventy Assembly seats, 672 candidates are contesting.

New Delhi: All preparations are in place for the Delhi Assembly Election. The polling for 70-member Assembly will take place tomorrow. The campaigning for election ended last evening.

 

Counting of votes will be taken up on Tuesday. Election Commission and other agencies have made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the poll. For the seventy Assembly seats, 672 candidates are contesting.

A maximum 28 candidates are contesting from New Delhi and a minimum four are contesting from Patel Nagar Assembly constituency. One crore forty seven lakh voters in Delhi will decide political fate of these candidates. Thirteen thousand 750 Polling Stations have been set up for the voters to cast their votes.

Electoral staff with EVMs & VVPATs

Chief Electoral Officer Dr Ranbir Singh said that all the arrangement has been made for the smooth conduct of the poll. Mr Singh said, the commission has made all the necessary arrangements for the convenience of the voters and appealed to voters to exercise their franchise.

Delhi Police has made elaborate law and order and security arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the election. Around forty thousand Police personnel and several companies of Central Armed Police Forces have been deployed for security of poling premises.

190 companies of CAPF, 19000 Home Guards, 42000 police personnel deployed for Delhi polls

An official of Delhi Police said, additional forces have also been deployed to bolster the security of EVMs, critical booths and counting centres.

Static surveillance teams and flying squads have been deployed. He said, special checking drives are being conducted in vulnerable areas to check any attempt to influence by money or muscle power and other unlawful practices. The services of Delhi Metro will begin at 4.00 A.M. tomorrow to facilitate the polling personnel and others to reach their destination on time.
