DUSU election results: ABVP leads in all posts — Prez, Vice-Prez, Secretary & Joint Secy posts

The voting for high-stakes electoral battle took place on Friday, with students in various colleges casting their ballots for electing their favourite candidates.

New Delhi: After days of high-octane poll campaign for the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections, the counting of ballots is underway for election key four posts of the students body. The results are likely to be announced by later afternoon.

The voting for high-stakes electoral battle took place on Friday, with students in various colleges casting their ballots for electing their favourite candidates.

The elections for four key positions – DUSU President, Vice-President, Secretary & Joint Secretary are held every year, however, last few years saw an ‘election drought’ due to Covid outbreak. Last DUSU elections were held in 2019.

A total of 24 candidates are in the fray for election to 4 posts of the DUSU. The counting is underway amidst tight security at counting centres. Elections were held at 52 colleges and departments via electronic voting machines (EVMs).

In the recently concluded polls, about one hundred thousand students were eligible to cast their votes. About 42% university students exercised their franchise in the elections, revealed chief election officer Chander Shekhar.

This year’s voter turnout was higher than that of 2019, which stood at 39.90%. Notably, the years 2017 & 2018 recorded all-time high voting percentage and they were recorded at 42.8% and 44.46% respectively.

The youth wing of all parties are hoping for positive outcome in the upcoming elections. Akhil Bharti Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Students’ Federation of India (SFI), All India Students’ Association (AISA) linked to the CPI(ML) had fielded their candidates for the respective seats.

In the 2019 elections, ABVP had clinched major victory, winning 3 out of 4 seats.
