Plot
The film begins with Mia, a talented but struggling author in her early 30s, navigating the vibrant yet melancholic streets of Copenhagen. She has just published a book about modern relationships. However, she feels ironically disconnected from her own love life. She enjoys the city’s literary cafés, old bookstores, and scenic canals but has long abandoned the idea of finding “the one.”
One evening at a literary event, she unexpectedly meets Emil, a warm-hearted but practical single father in his late 30s. He works as an architect and has a young daughter, Frida (6 years old). Unlike Mia, who is dreamy and idealistic, Emil is grounded, responsible, and deeply committed to his role as a father.
Their chemistry is immediate yet cautious, as both have been through failed relationships.
As the weeks pass, Mia and Emil embark on a slow-burn romance, spending long afternoons in Copenhagen’s cozy cafés, bike rides along the Nyhavn harbor, and intimate evenings discussing their pasts. Emil introduces Mia to Frida, who quickly takes a liking to her. This all makes Mia feel an unfamiliar warmth—a sense of family she has never experienced.
However, both bring emotional baggage into the relationship. Mia, who had always focused on her career, begins to wonder if she is cut out for motherhood. Emil, having been through a divorce, is hesitant to bring someone new into Frida’s life unless it’s truly serious. Despite these doubts, their love deepens.
