The film explores the moral dilemmas of war journalism, the sacrifices made for one’s calling, and the impact such work has on family relationships.

A Thousand Times Goodnight is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on the 31st of January 2025. 

Plot 

Rebecca is a renowned war photographer who has dedicated her life to documenting the world’s most dangerous conflict zones. The film opens with her capturing a harrowing scene. A group of female suicide bombers are preparing for an attack in Kabul, Afghanistan.

She follows one woman as she carries out her deadly mission, but when she gets too close, the explosion severely injures her. Rescuers airlift Rebecca to safety and send her home to Ireland.. There her husband, Marcus, and their two daughters are waiting. While they feel relieved that she is alive, Marcus reacts with fury.

He struggles with the fear of losing her and the emotional toll her dangerous career has on their family. Their eldest daughter, Steph shares her father’s resentment. She also feels abandoned by her mother’s constant absence.

Rebecca promises to quit her job for the sake of her family, but she soon finds herself restless and torn between her love for them and her passion for capturing the truth in war zones.

In an attempt to reconnect, Rebecca takes Steph on a trip to Kenya for a school project. Yet she cannot resist the pull of her profession. When an opportunity arises to photograph a conflict in a nearby refugee camp, she impulsively takes her camera and captures the violence firsthand. Steph witnesses the brutality and feels traumatized. She feels betrayed once again by her mother.

When they return home, the family’s fragile peace shatters. Marcus and Steph feel that Rebecca will never truly change. Rebecca confronts the reality that her work may ultimately cost her her family.
