Aamir Khan breaks silence on low celebrity turnout at Chandrakant Desai’s funereal, says this

As the celebrity attendance at Desai’s cremation remained relatively low, a number of people raised questions and voiced their anger at the Bollywood celebrities for not turning out to pay respects to the legendary director.

New Delhi: Veteran actor Aamir Khan recently paid his respects to late art director Nitin Chandrakant who was found dead after allegedly committing suicide inside his Raigad’s studio on Wednesday.

Besides Aamir, Chandrakant’s funeral was attended by a handful of Bollywood figures which included Lagan’s Oscar-winning director Ashutosh Gawariker and directing legend Sanjay Leela Bhansali with whom, Desai collaborated for a number of iconic movies including Hum DIl De Chuke Sanam and Devdas.

As the celebrity attendance at Desai’s cremation remained relatively low, a number of people raised questions and voiced their anger at the Bollywood celebrities for not turning out to pay their last respects to the legendary director.

Speaking on the same, Aamir Khan has also broken his silence and had a word with the media regarding the low celebrity count during Desai’s last offices.

Here’s what Aamir said

Aamir, who was in a deep state of sorrow while attending Desai’s funeral recalled working with the late director in his super hit 2001 home production Laagan and told that he has lost someone so dear to him.

Speaking to ANI and other media houses, Aamir further said ‘ “I know him from the Lagaan days. I am still unable to believe this has happened I wish he would have not taken this horrible step and reached out for aid instead. It’s so hard to speak anything in such a tragic situation.”

He also recalled his last meeting with the talented artist and said, “I last met him around 8 months ago when he came to invite me to his daughter’s marriage.” “We had a lot to catch up so we went on talking for more than 2 hours”, he added.

Finally, when Aamir was asked why most of the celebrities haven’t cared to appear at Desai’s funeral, he replied saying,” They must have had their reasons but I am sure Desai has a special place in everyone’s heart. I pay my heartfelt condolences to their family and friends and pray to got to give them the patience to deal with such a big loss.”

Previously, Akshay Kumar and Abhishek Bachchan also cancelled the release of their movie trailers as a gesture of respect for the late director.
