After Boycott Bollywood, #BollywoodKiGandagi emerges as top trend on Twitter before Pathaan’s release

As ‘Pathaan’ is about to release in theatres, the boycott calls have got active again and clips from Shah Rukh Khan’s interviews and song ‘Besharam Rang’ are making rounds on the internet.

New Delhi: The ‘Boycott Bollywood’ trend has gone a step further on Twitter as #BollywoodKiGandagi is among the top trends now. Netizens are sharing clips from Hindi films to prove their offensive nature towards Hindus. As ‘Pathaan’ is about to release in theatres, the boycott calls have got active again and clips from Shah Rukh Khan’s interviews and song ‘Besharam Rang’ are making rounds on the internet.

The boycott trend is backed by BJP and other Hindu outfits as party workers, including MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra, have been among the pioneers to call for Pathaan’s boycott. A few days ago, Bajrang Dal workers in Gujarat attacked a mall and destroyed Pathaan’s posters to give a warning to multiplex owners.

The trend caught fire again after actor Suniel Shetty urged Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath to stop this trend and let the film industry grow.

While the trend comes as a protest against a particular film industry, at the same time it is an attack on freedom of expression. The trend is not limited to people coming together and boycotting an art form, but has become a mode of hate towards a certain section of Bollywood and has extended to vandalism.
