New Delhi: Akshay Kumar’s period drama ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ have had a disappointing performance on the box office since the first day of its release.
If we have a cursory on Akshay’s movies this year, the year has been nothing special for Khiladi of Bollywood. Previously released Bachchan Pandey fell terribly on the box office and now it is ‘Samrat Prithviraj’.
As per the figures of Box Office India (BOI), the film earned 4.35 crores on Tuesday, while the total collection yet stands at Rs 48.60 crores which happens to be much less than expected.
Now the reports suggest that several theatrical shows of the film have been cancelled due to lack of audience in many places.
According to a report by E-Times, many shows of ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ were cancelled due to zero occupancy. The report quoted its sources as saying that the film could not pull the audience to the theatres, however, already the ticket sales for the film’s morning show were zero, so it is not expected for the film to make any mark any surprising now.
Along with ‘Samrat Prithviraj’, actor Kamal Haasan’s Vikram and Adivi Shesh’s Major were released in the theatres as well. While Major has earned more than 50 crores so far, South veteran actor Kamal Haasan is breaking records at the box office.
The production cost of ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ is said to be Rs 200 crore. Hence looking at the ticket sales, it would not be wrong to say that this film has become Akshay Kumar’s second consecutive flop of the year after ‘Bachchan Pandey’.
Although there still could be a few more days for the film to earn some more via cinema halls as there are some days left Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani starrer ‘Jug Jug Jio’ to hit the theatres.
For the not known, apart from Akshay and Manushi, Sonu Sood and Sanjay Dutt are also in the pivotal roles in Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s directorial film.
