New Delhi: IMDb released a list of the ‘most anticipated Indian movies in 2023’ and amid all the controversies, Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Pathaan’ has topped the list. The list includes 20 films including ‘Pusha: The Rule’, ‘Salaar’, ‘Jawaan’ and ‘Adipurush’. While some of these films are surrounded by controversies and boycott calls, fans are still willing to watch them on big screens.
‘Pathaan’ is a part of YRF Spy Universe, in which SRK plays an R&AW spy along with Deepika and John Abraham in major roles. The film has been in controversy for using a ‘bhagwa’ bikini in the song ‘Besharam Rang’, as it allegedly offends Hindu sentiments. Some Hindu outfits have called for its boycott while Bajrang Dal in Gujarat also took this a step ahead to vandalism. However, this is not stopping Shah Rukh and Deepika’s fans to show their love and the film has topped the list among the most anticipated ones. ‘Pathaan’ releases in cinemas on January 25.
On the second number, the list features the Telugu film ‘Pusha: The Rule’, whose prequel was a massive hit. Allu Arjun enjoys a massive following and the songs from the prequel are still making a buzz across the country. Next on the list is Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawaan’, helmed by Atlee. SRK also has Rajkumar Hirani’s directorial venture ‘Dunki’ on this list.
The fourth and the fifth spots are occupied by ‘Rebel star’ Prabhas with his ‘Adipurush’ and ‘Salaar’ respectively. ‘Adipurush’, directed by Om Raut, has been another film surrounded by controversies as it features the story of the Ramayana and some Hindu outfits claim that the portrayal of certain characters is not correct. The film also stars Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan, with Prabhas in the titular role.
Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming ventures ‘Varisu’ and ‘Thalpathy 67’ (working title) are also on the list. Another star with multiple films here is Salman Khan, who is featured in ‘Tiger 3’ and ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’.
