This year Hartalika Teej is being celebrated today (August 30). Hartalika is made of two words – ‘harát’ means abduction and ‘alika’ means female friend.
On this day married and unmarried women worship Lord Shiva, Maa Parvati and Lord Ganesha.
On this day women wear new clothes, jewellery, apply mehndi on their hands and get themselves ready as a bride.
In several places, women stay awake for the entire night and sing folk songs in groups. Usually, Teej Puja is done in a group and the vrat is concluded on the next day morning.
