New Delhi: Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan who has one of the longest careers in Bollywood has recently bought a new 5704 square feet duplex apartment in Andheri, the western suburbs of Mumbai, for Rs.31 crores.
The Maharashtra Chambers of Housing Industry (MCHI-CREDAI) said that more than Rs.90 lakhs were saved on the deal. Deepti Goradia, President of MCHI-CREDAI said, “Any sale boosts the whole cycle of real estate like the payment to banks, contractors and also fetches government revenue in the form of stamp duty and registration amount. Hence, the government needs to bring back the stamp duty cut.”
Big B has brought the property in Atlantis Building, Andheri from Crystal Pride Developers. The apartment is said to be on 27th and 28th floor of the under-construction building which 34 floors in total. The property comes with six mechanised parking slots. Bachchan bought the apartment on December 31, 2020 while registering the same on April 12, 2021.
The actor had to pay just ₹62 lakh as stamp duty due to Maharashtra government’s reduced stamp duty scheme. Under the scheme buyers have to pay just 2% of the stamp duty instead of the normal 5%. The scheme was launched to encourage the buyers and raise the revenue which has decreased significantly due to COVId-19 pandemic.
Apart from Bachchan some other Bollywood celebrities have also bought property in Atlantis Building, Andheri. Actress Sunny Leone bought a 4365 square feet apartment for Rs.16 crores, while the director Anand L Rai had to shell out ₹25.30 crore for his 5917 square feet apartment.
