Finally breaking the silence on his decision to opt for Ranveer instead of Shah Rukh in Don 3, Farhan, in his latest interview with Variety, made some new unexpected revelations about the same.

Speaking with Variety, the 49-year-old director stated that he and Shah Rukh went on separate ways mutually and he is not in the position of replacing or removing anybody from the movie. In the same interview, Akhtar revealed that he and Shah Rukh were unable to stumble upon any common ground and they both knew that parting ways was probably the best option for them.

While saying that he wanted to take his movie in a certain direction, Farhan further went on to say that he is super excited to see Ranveer as the Don of a new generation. He added, “I am very excited to have Ranveer on board and even he is charged and ready to work with us. Don 3 is a big movie, from the pov of an actor, it’s a big thing to do.” He further complimented Ranveer for his energetic aura and said that the actor’s energy is also energizing the movie’s whole team.

Replacing Shah Rukh an emotional process

Previously in August, Akhtar called the replacement an ’emotional process’ while saying that he also went through it when Big-B was replaced by Shah Rukh back in 2006. He also replied to those criticizing him over replacing Shah Rukh by saying that when Shah Rukh replaced Amitabh, fans were like “Oh God how can you replace Amitabh Bachchan?”

All About Don

It all started when Excel Entertainment’s co-founders Farhan Akhtar Ritesh Sdhiwani bought the rights of Amitabh Bachchan’s 1978 classic Don after locking a successful deal with its makers. Following that, the filmmakers released a recreated version of the classic crime drama with Shah Rukh Khan as the lead actor in 2006. To everyone’s surprise, The movie did wonders at the box office and established Shah Rukh Khan as the new undisputed Don of Tinsel Town.

Later, when Farhan and Ritesh came up with a sequel to the movie titled Don 2, packed theatres and houseful shows welcomed Shah Rukh once again as Don as the movie clocked Rs 203 crore at the box office and even became the second-highest grosses Hindi movie of that year.

Now, after the enormous success of Don’s 1st and 2nd instalments, Farhan is finally back with the third and conclusive instalment Don 3 that will see Ranveer Singh stepping in as the third and last Don of the popular franchise.
