New Delhi: Directed and co-written by the brilliant Japanese team Yoshida Tomoko and Miki Takahiro, this upcoming romantic comedy/drama promises to be an emotional roller coaster.
The trailer for Drawing Closer was published, and the debut is scheduled for June 27 on Netflix. It is sure to touch the hearts of people worldwide.
Based on the acclaimed book by Morita Ao, “Yomei Ichinen to Senkoku Sareta Boku ga, Yomei Hantoshi no Kimi to Deatta Hanashi” (literally means “The Story of How I, with a Year Left to Live, Met You, Who Had Only Half a Year”) is the source material for the live-action film. Despite its plot-revealing title, the piece was an instant smash on a self-publishing site and made readers cry. Following its acquisition by Poplar Publishing, the book series quickly gained traction online and has since sold more than 450,000 copies.
Akito Hayasaka and Haruna Sakurai’s lives are connected in Drawing Closer. The teaser trailer beautifully highlights the deft directing of Takahiro Miki, showcasing the little moments of happiness shared by Akito and Haruna.
Storyline
As an artist, Hayasaka Akito is very gifted. Despite his best efforts, he is informed that he has just one year to live when a tumour is found in his heart, and he is heartbroken. Hayasaka Akito remains emotionally distant after his diagnosis.
One day, Hayasaka Akito encounters Sakurai Haruna, a painter, on the hospital rooftop. Sakurai Haruna tells him that she has only a half-year remaining. Even though Hayasaka Akito’s feelings for her grow, he keeps quiet about his situation. Akito finds solace in Haruna.

On Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 1 hour and 58 minutes into its scheduled running length, Drawing Closer will be available to view on Netflix.

Cast and Crew
The primary actors in the film are Nagase Ren (Hayasaka Akito) and Deguchi Natsuki (Sakurai Haruna). Numerous additional characters, including Yokota Mayuu, Kimura Fumino, Ohtsuka Nene, and Nakamura Toru, make up the supporting cast.
Miki Takahiro and Yoshida Tomoko collaborated on the screenplay for this film adaptation of a book by Morita Ao.
Under the umbrella of Nikkatsu Django Film and Netflix, Akita Shuhei is the executive producer, while Haruna Kei, Toguchi Sho, and Banno Tatsuya are the producers.
