Farrey Review: Leading a nearly flawless cast, Alizeh Agnihotri delivers a strong acting debut in this youth drama

Farrey reaches out to a broader audience while still pushing certain limits. Rather than focusing on cheap thrills or trying to push the limit, Soumendra Padhi and his youth company let their performances speak for themselves.

New Delhi: Farrey is a breath of new air among the sea of generic high school dramas that are now oversaturated streaming. The film focuses on a bright student who falls victim to greed and manipulation before learning the ropes of hustle herself; it is an official version of the critically acclaimed Thai film ‘Bad Genius’ by writer-director Baz Nattawut Poonpriya.

The film Farrey, which stars Alizeh Agnihotri, Sahil Mehta, Prasanna Bisht, and Zeyn Shaw, among others, and was directed by Soumendra Padhi, is open in theatres starting from November 24, 2023.

Storyline

Playing the part of Niyati, an orphan raised by the warden and his wife, newcomer Alizeh Agnihotri (the niece of Salman Khan) makes her film debut. Niyati was able to attend an esteemed international school thanks to a highly sought-after scholarship she received after finishing first in her state. Despite her high grades, Niyati feels out of place in the exclusive setting where pupils are chauffeured around in expensive automobiles. This savant, nevertheless, is very street-smart and can learn its ways in no time.

The innocent deed of aiding a fellow student quickly turns into a test-cheating scam for Niyati. The orphanage receives more contributions, which means Niyati has money for her costs, as more wealthy students get engaged. Despite his initial reluctance, Aakash, a similarly talented but financially disadvantaged student who had also won the scholarship, finds himself entangled in this scam shortly after. At some point, fraud on a global scale develops from cheating at the school level. The crisp narrative that maintains focus throughout the building suspense is what makes this grandiose plan-gone-terribly-awry thriller succeed.

Review

Farrey reaches out to a broader audience while still pushing certain limits. Rather than focusing on cheap thrills or trying to push the limit, Soumendra Padhi and his youth company let their performances speak for themselves.

The cornerstones of Farrey are performances. Among 2023’s stars, Alizeh Agnihotri’s debut with Farrey stands out. She is stunning in even the most intricate settings, and she is easy on the eyes as well. She gives a performance that will go down in history as one of the best of all time.

Prassana Bisht and Sahil Mehta both provide outstanding performances as Chavi and Aakash, respectively. If cast in suitable parts, these two performers have a bright future ahead of them. In sync with the film’s increasing action, their personalities develop throughout. Pay close attention to the performances.

Starting with the first scene and continuing till the very end, Farrey is very captivating. Without ever arguing, the film goes right to the point. While Farrey’s first half is solid, the core of the tale comes in the second follow-up plot after the intermission. The plot moves at a breakneck rate, keeping you glued to your seat as the characters pull surprise after surprise.

Watching Farrey is something that comes highly recommended, particularly for those who have not yet seen Bad Genius.
