New Delhi: On August 15, Gadar 2 not only earned more than its previous day’s total but also broke the Rs 200 crore barrier. With Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel reuniting, it’s quite natural to conclude that the movie will do well at the box office.

The highly anticipated sequel to the 2001 smash blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha has been smashing records at the box office. In fact, on Independence Day, it earned Rs 55.4 crore, making it its greatest single-day total ever, as reported by business tracker Sacnilk. Gadar 2 is expected to surpass the total earnings of Pathaan and aim to break the all-time Hindi record established by the film starring Shah Rukh Khan earlier this year. Earning nearly Rs 1000 crore globally, Pathaan generated Rs 543 crore nett in India.

Box Office India claims that Anil Sharma’s Gadar 2, which opened on the same day as OMG 2, would have fared better if it had been given a wider release without competition. Box Office India said that on Independence Day, several single-screen theatres were unable to show Gadar 2 due to high demand. Even with the extended screenings, the picture is doing better than anticipated.
