Plot

A devout Seventh-day Adventist from Virginia, Doss felt a deep calling to serve his country, but not at the cost of his religious convictions. Despite widespread societal pressure and the violence of the era, he enlisted in the U.S. Army with the firm decision that he would never touch or use a weapon.

From the very beginning, Doss faced harsh criticism and scorn from his fellow soldiers. His refusal to carry a rifle was met with ridicule, suspicion, and even hostility from those who viewed his stance as cowardice. During the grueling days of boot camp, he endured physical abuse and isolation, with his superiors pushing him to quit.
