New Delhi: The 21-year-old Harnaaz Sandhu has made the nation proud by bringing the Miss Universe crown home 21 years after Lara Dutta won the title in 2000.
Sushmita Sen was the first to win the title while representing India in the 43rd Miss Universe pageant, held on 21 May 1994 at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay, Philippines. Sen defeated 77 contenders during the contest to win the crown.
She was followed by Lara Dutta at the 49th Miss Universe pageant, held at the Eleftheria Indoor Hall in Nicosia, Cyprus. Dutta was crowded slipping by 79 contestants.

The young Harnaaz, hailing from Chandigarh, has now joined the league of these incredible women by winning the 70th Miss Universe, held at Eilat, Israel.

# Harnaaz, who is a native from Punjab, started her modelling career at the age of 17.
# Previously, she has been crowned Femina Miss India Punjab 2019, Miss Diva 2021, and was also placed in the Top 12 at Femina Miss India 2019.
# Sandhu is currently pursuing her masters in public administration. Her mother is a gynaecologist by profession.
# The diva has also been featured in Punjabi films like Bai Ji Kuttange and Yaara Diyan Poo Baran, which are scheduled to be released in 2022.
# Mexico’s Andrea Meza, the reigning queen, passed on her crown to the new successor at the Miss Universe 2021 event held at Eilat, Israel.
