New Delhi: The teaser of Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming film ‘Jogi’ was released on August 20. The film is set in Delhi during the 1984 riots. The makers are set to deliver a promising story about friendship, courage and brotherhood in the backdrop of communal tensions in the country.
The 41-second clip opens with Diljit Dosanjh, playing Jogi, eating a meal with his family and a moment later there is shooting, screaming, bloodbath and chaos everywhere. People can be seen running to save their lives as thick smoke covers the vision. At the end of the clip, one gets to see Jogi’s love for his family and his motherland. Amidst all the chaos, Jogi refuses to abandon his people, whom he considers to be his family. He says, “They are all my family. I will not abandon them.”
Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the film also features Kumud Mishra, Amyra Dastur, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub and Hiten Tejwani. Talking about the film, Diljit Dosanjh told that he is also born in 1984 and the subject is really close to him. He also said that he has done a film earlier which also dealt with the same issue and ‘Punjab 1984’ went on to win the National Award. Talking about the films’s OTT release he said, “Sabko iss baare mein pata hona chahiye (Everyone should know about it). That’s why the film coming out on an OTT platform was needed. Because the subject is not yet explored in the digital space yet. It is the right chance for us to tell the story.”
The film will release on Netflix on September 16. Sharing the teaser, Netflix wrote, “Dekhiye Jogi ka haunsla, Jogi ki himmat, aur Jogi ki dosti. Jogi, streams on 16th September, only on Netflix.”
