New Delhi: Kajal Aggarwal’s supernatural horror-drama Karungaapiyam is all set to grace an OTT platform in Telugu as Kajal Karthika.
The Tamil paranormal thriller was initially released in theaters in May 2023 where it witnessed a lukewarm reception from the fans & fell flat at the Box Office. Later, its Telugu dubbed version Kajal Karthika graced the big screens but also failed to do anything remarkable either.
Now, almost a year has passed since the movie’s forgettable theatrical release and it is now finally arriving to try its luck on the digital platform.

Leading south Indian streaming giant Aha Video announced on Wednesday that Kajal Karthika is arriving on its platform on April 9, 2024.
Taking to its official Instagram account, Aha broke the news of the horror film’s digital debut by dropping its trailer attached to a caption that read, “Get ready for a bone-chilling horror experience as #KajalKarthika Premieres April 9″

Aha’s announcement has now triggered a wave of excitement amongst Kajal’s fans who are now looking forward to enjoying their favorite actress’ movie from the comfort of their homes with bated breath.
Kajal Karthika Story
After getting extremely bored during the COVID-19 lockdown, Umayaal (Regina Cassandra) visits her friend Priya’s brother’s library & starts reading a mysterious book Karungaapiyam which is full of bizarre & supernatural tales.
After a few minutes into reading, she stumbles upon the 4th story of the book which talks about a woman Karthika (Kajal) who, thanks to her magical powers, used to enjoy huge respect in the eyes of people of her village during the colonial period of India.
However, the lady’s destiny takes a tragic turn when the same villagers, who once used to see her as a blessing of god, hold her responsible for several child abductions, her husband’s death, & a few other unexplained murders that had shook the area in the recent times.
This hostile behavior of her fellow villagers then compels Karthika to leave her house and relocate to the outskirts of the area.
A few days later, her husband’s brother, who is the real culprit behind all the tragic happenings in the village, provokes the locals to punish Karthika for her deeds & make them stone her to death.
From there, the story ends with Karthika’s return as a ghost who avenges her wrongdoers by brutally killing them and saving her daughter from their evil clutches.
As Ummayal finishes reading the tragic tale of the poor lady, strange incidents start happening to her and she eventually learns that she is the reincarnation of the Karthika & even possesses similar magical powers to her. What happens next is the remaining part of the film.
Cast and Production
Besides Kajal and Ragina as the leading female protagonists, the film’s cast sees several skilled actors like Raiza Wilson, Noyrika Bhatheja, Kalaiyarasan, Yogi Babu, Karunakaran, Lollu Sabha Manohar, John Vijay among others in key roles.
The film is produced by Padarthi Padmaja and was released bankrolled under the banner of Pave Entertainments on 19 May 2023.
