‘Leaned to kiss me’: Another woman accuses Vijay Babu of alleged harassment
She stated that the incident was shocking to her which kept her to stay away from the film industry.
New Delhi: Following the accusation of sexual assault and abuse against Malayalam actor-producer Vijay Babu by a woman, another woman barged in accusing him of alleged harassment during a work-related meeting. In a #MeToo Kerala Instagram post, the victim said that the actor tried kissing her even though he knew her for barely 20-30 minutes.
She stated that the incident was shocking to her which kept her to stay away from the film industry. According to her, she revealed the incident after the actor who filed a police complaint against Vijay Babu faced ridicule from society.
“He was drinking alcohol and offered it to me as well. I refused and continued working. Suddenly, he just leaned to kiss me on my lips, without any question, without any consent. Luckily, my reflex action was super quick and I just pulled myself backwards and maintained a distance from him. I looked into his face, and he then asked me: Just one kiss?” she said in a post.
On the other hand, the actor has moved Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail after the police issued a lookout notice against him in the rape case. The actor is on a runaway and has reportedly fled from the country as soon as the case was filed against him.
The original incident related to alleged sexual abuse and harassment happened in April. Reportedly, Vijay Babu abused and assaulted her for over a month. The survivor posted in a Facebook group named Women Against Sexual Harassment, elaborating details about the alleged sexual assault.
The victim in the police complaint stated that the actor tortured her multiple times at his apartment by promising her better opportunities in the film industry. Following this, Ernakulam South Police registered a case against Vijay Babu on April 22, based on the complaint.
According to laws, it is unfair to publicly reveal the victim’s name and by revealing her name on Facebook live, Vijay Babu has been charged additionally.
“I haven’t done anything wrong. I’m the victim. The law of this country protects her and she is at ease while I’m the one who is suffering. I will file a defamation case. I won’t let her get away that easily,” he had said before repeatedly naming the survivor.
Earlier, similar allegations were raised against the actor by co-producer Sandra Thomas. However, the case was withdrawn soon after that
